PixlBit | "God of War: Ascension is a game that I had a hard time getting excited for. For me, God of War 3, capped off the saga of Kratos on the right note. It was bittersweet to see the story end, but it did so on an epic (and violent) note. Instead of the series continuing with a new protagonist or mythology, we have a prequel to a story that I felt pretty comfortable with already. Ascension ends up being a sadly mediocre game, and I expected more."

God of War: Ascension is still a good title, but suffers from a fatigue which frankly is not pleasant to experience. You can see that from the uninteresting plot, mediocre longevity and a gameplay that recycles itself. At least there's an interesting multiplayer mode that can donate a few hours of leisure from the usual angry protagonist. After six chapters there is a question that Sony must now ask themselves: "After years of anger and revenge, it is not a case for Kratos to rest?"

As the old saying goes, hell hath no fury like a Kratos scorned. Admittedly I may be paraphrasing here, but Im sure you get the point and, in God Of War: Ascension, Kratos brings more fury than the Incredible Hulk after hes had his Shiny Charizard nicked which, incase you arent aware, is a really big deal.

"Acting as a prequel for the God of War series, Ascension takes place 10 years before the events of the first God of War as Kratos tries to break free of his blood-oath to Ares after he is tricked into murdering his own family."

So the big man Kratos returns by way of a temporal manoeuvre for one last blast at the tail-end of the PlayStation 3s time in the limelight. Sony Santa Monica have put their heart and soul into this latest installment in the high profile and ever so gory God of War series, opting to publish on the current generation of console presumably to avoid the mess of a launch window release that is expected in the maelstrom leading up to Christmas 2013. Its likely theres another reason too, namely to reach the pinnacle of what can be done with the outgoing Cell processor (compare with Naughty Dogs forthcoming The Last of Us). Alongside the expected technical brilliance and well known single player gameplay theyve developed a bespoke multiplayer element in a first for the franchise.

Paste: "For anyone who remembers Kratos at the beginningthe real beginning eight years ago, not the manufactured origins of Ascensionthe whole thing is just depressing now. You tell yourself maybe this is the last time, maybe the Ghost of Sparta is finally ready to grow up and move along. And if not, well, maybe its time to stop answering the phone."

God of War is an extremely popular exclusive that was released for the PlayStati in 2008. In fact, when the game first debuted I went out and bought a Playstation just to play this game. I am a big fan of God of War the games series iswellkiller. Now, years later, we get to dive into a prequel to God of War: Chains of Olympus, where it first began. Enter, God of War: Ascension. A multi-player action packed adventure with Kratos.
